We heard about Reign of Terror through a colleague and decided to do it for the fun and also the challenge of it. We set up a team and then rallied together a few more friends to join us. Neither of us had any obstacle course race experience before. We definitely didn’t do any specific training for the event at all but we do try to exercise a few times a week anyway with walks and classes.
We really enjoyed doing the course and stuck together throughout. The obstacles we enjoyed the most were the ‘Motte and Bales’ and ‘Phil’s Hill’. Running up and pulling that rope all the way to the top on such a slippery surface was a really fun experience.
We both agree on which obstacle we found the most challenging. It was the final obstacle, the sloped wall at the end called, ‘Victory Hill’. We were tired and it was steep but it was worth summoning up that last shot of adrenaline for that feeling you get when you make it to the top.

We didn’t feel particularly nervous about doing Reign of Terror. We knew it was going to be tricky and challenging as it’s something we had never faced before but we were really looking forward to it at the same time. We would advise anyone thinking about doing the course to just go for it as it’s so enjoyable, a great day out and a great way to challenge yourself with friends.
We couldn’t get over how beautiful the medieval village of kells looked. It’s such a perfect setting for the Reign of Terror course. It felt like such a privilege to be going through the priory and crossing the weir. It was just fabulous. The event itself was really well organised. There were so many marshals en route who were all very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere in Kells was amazing on the day. There was a great buzz about the place and it was lovely to see everyone helping and encouraging each other along the way, regardless of ability.
Straight after completing the Reign of Terror we felt instantly relieved that we had gotten through it in one piece and also delighted with ourselves. It was a great sense of achievement. We will definitely be doing the Reign of Terror again and we won’t be surprised if even more friends join us this time because if we can do it then anyone can!!
